Winter Work 2013. Solo exhibition. The Old School Gallery, Bleddfa, Powys.
Set in the winter forest, imaginary narratives have been used to expand space and time. It is during the winter months that the bare bones of the landscape are revealed. The forest becomes a place of sculptural elements, a place of memory, of solitude and stories.
The twin motifs of tree and house are entwined here. The large blackthorn house sculpture Lyric is slowly becoming a grove of trees, a place of unease, a piece of the forest cut out with a pair of scissors.
A miniature blackthorn house, Story, made from thorns and fragments of wood veneer is drifting away on the forest floor.
Two large house woodcuts reveal an unsettled interior.
Fairy tales echo around this work. The house, a place of safety, a place of childhood memories, has become part of a larger narrative.
Figures in some of the prints, Myth, The Charcoal Burner, Rabbit with Box, appear to be enacting a solitary drama. The forest has become an arena, a stage where stories can be played out.
The full sets of prints can be seen on the Printmaking page.
